FOIL

Foiling is a process that leaves the surface shiny, experimenting with hand painting and screen printing to create designs. Foil adhesive is used during this process to transfer the foils onto the material, leaving the design with a metallic finish. Printers are guided through the full process of designing, printing, and foiling their own samples and final pieces.

The technique can be applied to a wide range of textured surfaces, including knit, weave, stitch, crochet, leather, cotton, and linen. This process also works on other printed surfaces, such as screen print or a sublimation print design, layering multiple techniques onto one material.

This workshop will show you how to:

  • Draw and mark-make

  • Design

  • Cut paper stencils

  • Explore painting, screen printing and relief printing

  • Screen print and hand paint with adhesive

  • Use textures to create patterns

  • Use a heat press safely

  • Print designs onto material

  • Print onto a final piece

All materials will be provided in this workshop, and participants are encouraged to explore any materials they may have at home or sourced from a charity shop for printing during the session.
